Positivity & portraiture

And then the clouds parted, and the sun came out….

After what feels like forever fighting the dark mood, I woke on Sunday feeling like a weight had lifted and I was back to being myself.

Friday was the last day of full-time work for a while.  Saturday I painted.

Still a week away from Saturday morning classes, so once again I cranked up the music, and let myself play.

Portraits

Probably the one genre that I am least confident with.  All that measuring, and skin tones..

But you know me, and know that I don’t paint realism well and that said, I drew my  inspiration from other artists with amazing expertise in colour.

Drag Queens.

Through my friend Micael (Dazey Mayhem), I now have several incredibly artistic queens in my circle of friends.

And like the artists who set up easels in front of the classic paintings in the galleries of the Metropolitan Museum in NYC, I attempted to capture the theatrical art of Drag on canvas.

Izzy A’Mon

All three on 10″ square canvas sheet.  Matte and Izzy in Acrylics, Dazey in Oils.

Matte & Dazey on Saturday, and Izzy, painted Sunday afternoon.

As you can see, my style relaxed and developed with each one.

Fun practice pieces and so far very well received by the subjects.

I have a couple more I want to do, so my dabble with portraiture will continue for a little bit more.  Probably not at class though.  I need to find something to do on a bigger canvas.

Maybe a landscape, its been a while since I attempted something like that.

Or maybe I will just let my teacher throw me a challenge.  She has hinted that she has something she would like us to try.

It feels good to be smiling a real smile again.  Thank you to all my friends who have checked in on me.

Just having someone ask “Are you ok?” helped enormously in breaking the funk.

Enough rambling.  I have laps of the coffee table to ……

OMGOMGOMGOMG ARRRRGGGGHHHH

MJ MJ MJ COME QUICK WITH A GLASS…

QUICK QUICK, ITS ON MY SHOE

YES, A BLOODY HUNTSMAN…

FUCK!!!!!

(and while I kept a safe distance my heroic son removed the smaller than average hairy spider from the house and released it in the garden

My heart is still pounding)
